Apple’s next big move is expected to be a bezel-less iPhone and designer Ilya Miskov has given us a great glimpse of what that might look like. Sharing an eye-catching mockup on Twitter, he envisioned an iPhone with an impressive dynamic island cutout, where the bezels blend seamlessly into the stainless steel frame, leaving only a small cutout for the camera and TrueDepth sensor. While the design may not be completely bezel-less, CAD files and other mockups suggest that future models, such as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, will sport thinner bezels.
But Apple’s approach doesn’t end there. Their ambitious plan includes putting the front-facing camera below the display panel by 2025 and eventually releasing a true bezel-less iPhone in 2027, which will see no notch or bezel. The exact fate of the dynamic island cutout remains uncertain – will it be replaced, replaced by another feature, or made smaller? only time will tell.
The prospect of a bezel-less iPhone is exciting not just for Apple fans, but for the industry as a whole. Since Apple is improving this technology, it is likely that they may share it with other companies like Samsung, which is responsible for developing the panel. However, it seems likely that Apple will retain some form of Dynamic Island, as it has become a defining feature of their phone’s identity. Still, for deeper experiences like gaming and watching Apple TV+ shows, they can opt to remove the software cutout.
While companies like Samsung offer curved glass technology for a bezel-less experience, Apple prioritizes the durability of its products. Reports suggest that they have ruled out this approach due to concerns of making the phone less resistant to crashes. Instead, Apple plans to retain a flat display and angular design, which will require advances in thin-film encapsulation (TFE) and under-panel camera (UPC) technologies. However, these reforms will take time to develop and implement.
While we eagerly await the future bezel-less iPhone, we may be gearing up for the upcoming iPhone 15 release, which promises to introduce exciting new features. Rumors indicate that Apple will unveil its latest creation in just over a month’s time and fans can’t wait to see what they have in store.
I can only think of accidentally touching things at the edge of the screen.
I hope they work on edge tap rejection as well. iPhone 13/14 already forces me to repeatedly tap on the glitch in the lower right corner while holding the phone, this will make it worse.
Even, I would like a phone with an invisible front camera instead. And always beautiful thoughts with the Apple because there is no other brand on planet in such a competitive mode of serving best & top notch quality handsets like Apple to the people.
