Google-owned YouTube wants to stop the spread of fake and harmful content on its platform. They’re making a change: Starting August 31, 2023, links people put in the comments and descriptions of YouTube Shorts videos won’t work when clicked. This change will happen over time, not all at once.
People who do bad things online, such as deceiving others or spreading fake information, often use links to do so. To prevent this, YouTube needs to take steps to make it harder for these bad guys to use links to fool users or commit fraud.
They’re also doing something else: Those little pictures that represent social media sites at the top of a YouTube channel’s page will no longer serve as links.
But, because links are important for creators to share useful stuff and recommend products or brands to their fans, YouTube is trying to find new ways to showcase important links.
Starting August 23, 2023, when you’re using YouTube on a computer or mobile device, you’ll see links you can more easily click on Creators’ Profiles. These links will be near the ‘Subscribe’ button.
YouTube also said that before the end of next month, they’ll be rolling out a secure way for creators to guide viewers from Shorts videos to their other content on YouTube.
Earlier this week, YouTube started testing something new called the ‘For You’ section. This will make the channel homepage more personalized for everyone who uses YouTube. It will suggest different types of videos from a channel based on the videos a person has already watched.
